Eat Alone

I’m someone who has always been terrified of being alone. So much so, I’ve filled the gaps in my times with romantic relationships. I’ve scrambled and called every person in my contacts list because I couldn’t stand a Saturday afternoon alone.

That was until I moved 1300 miles from my partner, my friends, and my family.

Now, I have to be alone. If I want to try a new restaurant, I usually have to go alone. Although it admittedly sounds sad, it’s kind of been great.

This has been the first time in my life I’ve been able to alone with my thoughts. I can sit outside a coffee shop for hours alone now. Writing, thinking, coming up with new things to do. I don’t need someone there with me and I don’t have to be afraid of it anymore.

People hate eating alone. I get why. Eating can be a wonderful experience to share, but sometimes you need to eat and there’s no one to eat with.

Sometimes you want to go try that new restaurant or cafe, but you don’t know a soul in a 1000 mile radius. Why don’t you just do it? Eat alone.

You don’t have to split the bill or worry about looking messy.

More importantly, you never know who you will meet.

Travel alone. Eat alone. Be alone.
